Tracheostomy
About Lesson
  • Tracheostomy is an artificial airway (AA) inserted into the necks of patients for various reasons. They can be temporary (reversible) or permanent.
  • Laryngectomy is the surgical removal of the larynx, permanently with the open end stitched to the front of the neck used as artificial Nostrils. However, there is no connection from the nose or mouth to the lungs.
  • NB: The upper airways management devices such as: facemasks, supraglottic airway devices or oral/nasal intubation) will not work. The only airway that the patient has is on the front of the neck.
